This 89-square-meter flat, located on the 24th floor, benefits from north-south cross ventilation and ample sunlight. However, the original layout hindered the flow of these natural elements. To overcome this challenge, the designers reconstructed the space, utilizing the existing advantages and incorporating innovative design solutions.
The key to the 2402 Flat's uniqueness lies in its use of flexible sliding partitioning. By incorporating these movable walls, the designers were able to connect the air, sunshine, and space together, creating a harmonious and inviting atmosphere. The color palette of white and wood tones adds a sense of peace and simplicity, while accents of orange-brown, black grilles, and grey marble inject urban vibrancy into the overall design.
The realization of the 2402 Flat involved the use of materials such as wood, marble, glass, and stone. These elements were carefully selected to enhance the aesthetic appeal and functionality of the space.
Functionality was a key consideration in the design process. The original three rooms were combined into two, allowing for a spacious wardrobe for the hostess. Additionally, one of the guest rooms was transformed into a multifunctional space, serving as a living room when guests are present and as a connected space with the hall for reading and playing musical instruments.
The 2402 Flat project began in March 2017 and was completed in November 2017 in Foshan city, China. The design was inspired by the philosophy of simplicity, as advocated by Zhuangzi, a prominent figure in Chinese Taoism. The aim was to create a space that exudes a simple, peaceful, and relaxing atmosphere, focusing on the essence of the design.
The 2402 Flat faced challenges in communicating the cost of replacing concrete walls with flexible wooden and glass materials to enlarge the space. However, the designers successfully overcame these challenges, resulting in a design that seamlessly combines functionality, aesthetics, and innovation.
This flat was specifically designed for a young couple who desired a modern and simple style that is both functional and comfortable. The use of wood and marble materials, along with the open kitchen and multifunctional room, creates a sense of connectivity and spaciousness.
The 2402 Flat, designed by Lu Weijian and He Jiacheng, was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2019 for its outstanding and creatively ingenious design. This prestigious award recognizes designs that incorporate best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
